“I’ll preface this review by saying that I realize that it’s got to be very difficult trying to articulate a highly complex game to a mass audience in ways that are both understandable but also educational. That said, I feel like if I keep my mouth shut, nothing will change. Listening to Rick Venturi is just painful. It honestly feels like the Jeff Saturday hire of announcing. My hunch says that Irsay somehow loves this guy because he loves all weird old things. Therefore, the guy now does all of the announcing as opposed to some relevant, astute, up-and-coming announcer. He’s not even able to play the ex-coach card, because everyone knows he was one of the worst head coaches in the history of professional and collegiate football, given his record. It’s numbing listening to him say the same thing week after week about setting the edge, stopping the run, and some of the other 1970s philosophical points with football schematics that’s just not even relevant in today’s game. I just don’t listen to the guy, I’ve lost all interest in the Colts media given the fact that he’s on every other show and on game days. It’s unfortunate because I think there’s a lot of talent in the Colts organization from the broadcasting perspective and I just wish I could hear more of that, and less of Mr. set the edge.”
