Listen now
Description
In this episode, Jane Ledger starts to unpack the question all interior design clients want to know: how much is an interior designer going to charge for their skills and services? She covers the following: Design fees are an inevitable part of engaging a design professional. They are separate from and additional to the cost of your renovation, new build or furnishings projectTwo of the main methods of charging are flat fees and hourly rateFlat fee is a figure to deliver a defined scope of work, assessed by the designer with regard to the size and scale of your project and the level of skill and time involvedThe time it takes to complete elements of a project can be significant; Jane refers to an example of designing and implementing a dining room banquette. Designers are managing many moving parts behind the scenes that clients often don’t see.All this time and expertise will be reflected in the flat fee chargedHourly rates are charged for the duration of the project; flat fees are known in advance at the beginning of the projectIf clients add to the scope of work, the flat fee or number of hours will increaseJane runs through how her flat fees are phased - Phase 1 design fee for conceptualisation, design, documentation and presentation to you. Phase 2 fees for procurement and implementationFlat fees require boundaries on what’s included and what isn’t She covers how flat fees are dealt with in a reno vs furnishings project vs new buildJane explains how her trade discounts are passed on to clients and a procurement fee charged Connect with us: Website https://janeledger.com.au Instagram https://www.instagram.com/janeledgerinteriors Thank you for listening!
