Nuanced, interesting, so much to learn
Tara’s story is cleverly both personal and global. Through the lens of marine archeology, Tara is revealing such a complex, moving, and dynamic history of the slave trade beyond an overly generalized, 2-D story that often lacks perspective from Black people that many of us learned in middle school, high school, and beyond. The story of the international slave trade is not disengaged from Tara (and millions of others) own personal story, and the podcast moves us through many instances of how enslavement continues to impact our world today in a very real and significant way. Highly recommend this podcast to anyone interested in marine archeology, diving, history, or seeking a trauma-informed approach to the topic of slavery.
