Review of Aileen O’Brien episode
Twenty years ago I was studying the Spanish Civil War as a history undergraduate and came across the propaganda pamphlets about the conflict written by Aileen O’Brien. I’d also studied the Irish Revolutionary period in quite a bit of depth so was familiar with the Irish political scene of the 1930s. I was fascinated by this shadowy O’Brien figure who seemingly had spent a lot of time with the Nationalist forces and often wondered about her background and what happened to her in later life. Unfortunately there was not a lot of information on her at the time so I’m really grateful that years later you’ve filled in the gaps in my knowledge!
