On this week’s Islamic Faith in Focus podcast with Imam Hassan he addresses the punishments for disobeying the commands of God. As Imam Hassan opens this podcast he quotes the Quran from the book of An-Nisa (4:131) “And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And We have instructed those who were given the Scripture before you and yourselves to fear Allah . But if you disbelieve - then to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And ever is Allah Free of need and Praiseworthy.” He goes on to say that in Al-Jinn (72:23) the punishment for not obeying God’s word is laid out “But [I have for you] only notification from Allah, and His messages." And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger - then indeed, for him is the fire of Hell; they will abide therein forever.” To explain what he means by this, Imam Hassan goes a little deeper as he talks about the messengers of God – as an example, Noah, those that didn’t listen to God were punished by a great flood. Except Noah, God spared his life and that of his family, as they had followed God’s words.
