In the world today, we have leaders that are not very humble, in fact some of our world leaders are prideful. It is for that reason that this lesson in being humble is not specifically for Muslims; this applies to non-Muslims as well. The Imam quotes 11:23 from the Quran which reads “Indeed, they who have believed and done righteous deeds and humbled themselves to their Lord - those are the companions of Paradise; they will abide eternally therein.” He also quotes 22:54 “And so those who were given knowledge may know that it is the truth from your Lord and [therefore] believe in it, and their hearts humbly submit to it. And indeed is Allah the Guide of those who have believed to a straight path.” Siting these verses the Imam points out that the Quran itself encourages us to be humble in the sight of our Lord. Imam Hassan goes on to point out that the Quran reminds us to humble ourselves, not only to the God, but to our parents as well.
