Target audiences are overrated
I stumbled across this podcast on the reluctant realization , that I binged all ‚Fun Fact‘ episodes in two weeks. It’s mentioned on several occasions, that the target audience is tech industry leaders, founders and people who aspire to be one of the two. Which is kind of cute. While I understand the need of tech leaders to be listened to and respected by their equals….. I’m sorry to inform anyone who might be concerned: this is a very good tutorial on how to handle your boss. Or to be a better employee - for the non-cynics among us (if they do indeed exist). I‘m neither a leader, nor a founder, nor do I want to be - I don‘t even work in a tech company. I enjoy people who are over the top enthusiastic about their line of work. This podcast is a very well thought out window into a world, which meaning is highly over- and impact is highly underrated. The guests are a nice mixture of I-want-to-save-the-world and I-look-where-the-big-money-is-and-apply-some-screws and everything in between. With a refreshing solid percentage of female voices. And a host, who is exactly in his element. Exactly exactly. Like if he was born to do this. Or if he invested a huge amount of time and effort to turn his enthusiasm into skill, understanding and the ability to communicate through all the complex layers of his world. Probably the latter. A tech background is not required to enjoy this podcast. If I learned anything at all from the episodes so far, it’s this: on your first day at any given tech company you‘ll get a 10-sided and several 20-sided dices. The former determines your job title. The latter your job description. Then you draw 6 cards from a standard poker deck. These decide, what you‘ll be responsible for. And the cat you choose blindfolded from the bag will tell you, what you‘ll actually be doing. Maybe it‘s not quite that chaotic. But everyone on the show is enchantingly concerned to explain the specific job role structure of their company. So you‘ll get along peachily as an outsider. In short (#liveistoolongforshortreviews): I love it.
