“While I cannot remember how I stumbled across the Jane Eyre Files podcast, I’m tremendously glad I did after my most recent reading of Charlotte Bronte’s book, finding to my disappointment that none of my friends liked it or had read it recently (it seems something is wrong with my friends…) and therefore couldn’t really chat with me about one of my favorite novels. But within days of this sad discovery, there was Jane Eyre Files! Ah, magical internet!
Each episode, Charlene and her husband, Mike, talk about one chapter of JANE EYRE in a way that is very much focused on the content of the book itself, marvelouscing off onto vaguely related bunny trails the listeners may or may not be intrigued by. Charlene is clearly very much an ardent fan of this fine book, while Mike has read it before but is re-reading it along with Charlene for the podcast. The discussions are always enjoyable, intelligent, and informative, and our hosts pleasant to listen to; this, and the thoughtful steering of the discussion, really does make this a lovely and entertaining podcast I look forward to every week.
They occasionally talk about the various film adaptations, and magically do so in a way that does not make me feel like I am suddenly listening to a movie podcast rather than a book podcast, though of course listeners probably would not mind an episode or two about such adaptations.
As it happens, I just listened to the episode about the penultimate chapter of JANE EYRE, meaning the last episode of the podcast approaches. Alas! This married couple does such a fine job with one of the greats of literature. I will miss having a new episode to look forward to every week. Thank you both for producing such a good show!”
