The History Project: Documenting and Sharing the Stories of Boston's LGBT Communities
Listen now
Description
Established in 1980 by a group of historians, activists and archivists, The History Project is the only group focused exclusively on preserving the history of Boston’s LGBT community, and on making that history accessible to future generations. Primarily a volunteer-driven organization, The History Project focuses on several important initiatives including conducting research on lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, and transgenders in Massachusetts, preserving the documentary record of that community's social and historical contributions, and providing a forum for educating the general public. Through its mission, THP seeks to provide an accurate portrayal of the contributions the LGBT community has made to the political, cultural, and economic life of the region. In this talk members of THP's board and staff reflect on their experiences doing this work and its outcomes.
