Here is a quick round up of Kate news for this past week. Whilst Kate did not accompany Prince William and his grandmother on the Queen’s Royal Week in Scotland, Kate was honoured with a new appointment by the Queen. She is to become the sponsor of a new Royal Navy Battleship HMS Glasgow that is currently being built at the BAE Systems’ shipyard in Govan, close to Glasgow in Scotland. Later that same day we got to see William, Kate and Prince George attend at Wembley Stadium in London to watch England win their Euro 2020 football match against archrivals Germany.  This was an historic moment for the England team having not beaten Germany in a knock-out tournament since England’s World Cup win over Germany in 1966 – 55 years ago.  Whilst Prince William is a big soccer fan it is not often that we see Kate watching a live game. Presumably she was there because it was an England game and also to help support Prince George at what was his first Royal appearance at an international game.  George’s broad smile at the end of the game showed us all that he had a great time. Later in the week,  Kate stepped out for a solo appearance at Wimbledon. The Wimbledon Tennis tournament was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic. Kate,  who is a life long tennis fan,  was overjoyed to be able to attend again this year -  with an added fun activity.  Wimbledon traditions include a strict all-white dress code for competitors and royal patronage. Strawberries and cream are traditionally served to spectators at the tournament as well a cocktail made from PIMS and lemonade. I know all of this first hand. One of the ways you can get tickets to watch some tennis is to enter a ballot. My sister has over the years been very lucky in the ballot. She would often invite me along to join her. Going back many years we would enjoy a day at Wimbledon,  which weather permitting,  can be a lovely day out even if you are not fond of tennis.  Kate has been Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club since 2016, taking the role over from the Queen. His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent is President of the club. Kate enjoyed what was Day 5 of the 2 week tournament. She was initially pictured sitting on one of the smaller outdoor courts where lower ranked players play their matches.  In a twist to her usual appearances, Kate not only toured the Wimbledon Tennis museum as she has done before, but she stopped in at the Wingfield Kitchen and donned an apron and helped to prepare some of the strawberries and other treats that are served in the various restaurants at Wimbledon. Kate heard all about the work that has been done over the past year by the chef and staff in their local community. Kate heard how through the Wingfield Kitchen, staff were able to provide 200 hot meals per day for a whole year to those in need in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. After her kitchen duties were over, Kate was escorted into the Royal Box  on Centre Court where she sat together with the Duke of Kent,  watching British player Andy Murray play.
