“Going through the back catalogue and I’m halfway through episode 217, specifically at the part where you got the 3 star review saying “know nonsense didn’t live up to its name” because there was too much nonsense.
Funnily enough, that review brought me back to the first Knowno episode I watched (I think it was 150?), which was some sort of a milestone episode. In classic milestone episode fashion it was a chaotic episode of 4 people (Kyle Anne and Seth were also there), and given what I now know of the energies of everyone involved was probably an intense starting point.
Anyway, I also wanted some kind of a speed trivia style thing and remember thinking “what the hell, can they stop talking and get to the next question?” I don’t think it took too long for the personalities to win me over, though, and soon I came to appreciate trivia that gives room for a good, interesting suss over the speed trivia format of something like Jeopardy. Now two years later, my favourite parts of the episodes are the tales from your trivia at the beginning (“I don’t watch TV” and the guy who insinuated his wife was too dumb to count toward the total team size are my two god-tier favourites of the pod). When it takes you 49 minutes to get to the actual questions I know I’m in for a good episode. And the wild tangents you go on during the guesses have me laughing at times. I honestly cannot remember the last time I found myself thinking “okay guys, move this along to the next question now.” As a prospective future quizmaster, the PIBS system of question writing and all the metagame stuff is also extremely interesting and useful.
In the era of “Nothing, Forever” and other AI written pods I’m sure people who want quantity over quality can find some podcast where a robot endlessly recites questions directly off some Jeopardy database or Trivial Pursuit cards, but what you’re giving us is irreplaceable. It really feels like you’re sitting at the bar figuring out questions with friends when listening to you guys. Thank you and keep up the great work!”
