Excellent.
I was a kid during the years covered on this history, and was only marginally aware of what was happening, even though I came from a family that was reasonably politically involved. Fascinating to being able to understand the context and backstories behind the headlines. Concise and well-written, an outstanding primer for one of the great tragic political actors of the 20th century. Makes me want to delve more into LBJ as a morally flawed and complex character.

David Brown is the perfect host for this subject as the editor of The Texas Standard. So much is dedicated to Kennedy, this is a fitting critical examination of a president who should have had a different legacy.

Like other kids who grew up in the 70s I knew about Watergate and Vietnam but had no idea how closely they were connected. It’s astonishing how much Nixon got away with, the things that he thought he was entitled to get away with. It’s also depressing how he set the stage for our 45th president
