On January 10th - April 28th, 2011 the Don Russell Clayton Gallery exhibited at the Bailey Performance Center showing off their “Modern and Contemporary Arts from the Permanent Collection”. The video shows a unique way of how the Learning Man, one of the many pieces in the art collection, was transported to the Performance Center. For more than a decade, Viola Frey's sculpture, "Leaning Man III," had stood sentry in the Student Center at Kennesaw State University. Students returning to school this month will certainly notice his absence. In December, a special crew carefully disassembled the nine-foot tall artwork and moved it to the Don Russell Clayton Gallery in the Dr. Bobbie Bailey & Family Performance Center, where it was be one of the highlights of the exhibition, "Modern and Contemporary Work from the Permanent Collection." The show will ran Jan. 10 through April 28. Like all of the works in the exhibition, "Leaning Man III," was given to Kennesaw State by a generous donor. He was a gift from Richard and Judy Marks, who have contributed several largescale pieces to the KSU permanent collection. Started in 1972 with gifts from Fred Bentley Sr. and J. Allan Sellars, the collection has grown to include nearly 1,000 paintings, sculptures, and works on paper dating from the late-15th century to the present. This special exhibition focuses on just a portion of the collection.
