Weird New Species Dreams
This podcast is absolutely amazing. Learning the Tropes is the first podcast I ever listened to consistently and since then I’ve gone down the romance novel podcast rabbit hole and I couldn’t be happier. Erin & Clayton are hilarious together and their banter is so fun I’ve even gotten my non-romance novel reading mother to listen a couple times (sort of). That brings me my to my review title: because of COVID, I had to move out of my apartment and my mom came up to help with the 12 hour (ugh) drive home. Around 4 am I was flagging, and turned on the Slade new species episode. I laughed my way through the episode, and upon arriving safely home and waking up, my mom turned to me and said ‘I just had a dream about a man who was also a dog’ was that me?’ At that point I was hitting close to 24 hours with no sleep and I started laughing so hard I cried. What was obviously an upsetting life change ended with near-hysterical laughter and tears of joy (though i hit tears of exhausting pretty soon after) because of this podcast. Can’t say how much this show and the rest of romancelandia has brightened a pretty bleak situation. Euphemism: womb broom

This is the best podcast set up. A veteran and newbie hashing out the plots, tropes, etc. for a variety of romance novels. Y’all have me laughing out loud each week.

They’re funny, thoughtful, and are even so considerate when a book doesn’t quite meet their expectations. I binged the backlog of episodes...Read full review »
