Surprisingly fun listen
Sadie is great, and her stories and insight are so interesting. I didn’t start at the beginning, so it seems like Gavi may have learned from some of the criticism of his participation style in earlier episodes, because I find their dynamic mostly pretty good, and I really like his theme song clip. Every now and then, though, I do get the impression that he is not as open to expanding his understanding of the world and of other people as much as Sadie is—for instance, the recent episode in which he spends a couple minutes incredulous at the idea that police in the 70s in Oregon would have been belittling to Black people, and that the comic book they were discussing *must* have taken place in the South if that was depicted. As Sadie tried to point out several times, Oregon’s history is as explicitly racist as anywhere in the country! Also, so much of Christian Nationalism is centered in the PNW, which is an explicitly racist fundie ideology that is growing rapidly and becoming more influential on national politics. It’s disappointing, on a podcast as intent on expanding its understanding of belief and behavior as this one, to be hitting that pothole. But like I said, it sounds like Gavi’s opened his mind somewhat on a lot of early criticisms, and I hope that continues, and that he becomes as willing to question the ideological underpinnings of his own upbringing as Sadie is. It’s an important skill for all of us, and one that this podcast shows can be done to great effect.

Poorly researched, unbiblical and poorly researched theology, and honestly - some people shouldn’t have a platform for this reason. They merely insult people they disagree with, mock, and then pretend they somehow mic dropped a truth bomb. If you want to hear quality content regarding abuse,...Read full review »
