Meet Freya, the Norse Goddess of Magic, Healing and Witchcraft
Listen now
Description
In this episode you’ll meet Freya, the Norse goddess of healing, magic, wisdom, love, fertility, war, death and rebirth. She will take you on a very healing journey where you start to awaken your inner magic. Freya has sometimes been called the Queen of Witches and the Queen of the Valkyries – and she represents the wild feminine presence within our core, the golden light of our feminine magic and wisdom.  Freya is a teacher of Seidr - a very powerful form of Norse magic and shamanic healing, which was practised by völvas (female shamanic priestesses in the Norse tradition), and Freya was their teacher. They are called völvas because they had a staff – völva means staff carrier – and this staff is a representation of the Tree of Life, which helps us journey into the different domains of reality. Freya is the goddess of the Vanir tribe, which is a tribe closely connected with nature, magic and witchcraft, so with the heart, the feminine and the magic of our soul.  The Aesir tribe, on the other hand – is a tribe connected with the mind and the masculine (the sky gods, such as Odin and Thor).  In the Norse Sagas, they talk about the First War – which is a war between the Aesir and the Vanirs, so a war between the heart and the mind - and as peace finally is found, Freya goes to live with the Aesir tribe, teaching them the art of Seidr. This can be seen as the heart teaching the mind about the magic of the feminine and the soul. And this is key - you can’t learn this ancient feminine magic through your mind, you can only learn it through the heart – and Freya is a teacher of this ancient feminine magic. She is the light in your heart and in your soul.  In this episode I first go through a talk about Freya, which will give you the map for our shamanic journey (so make sure you listen to this talk first).  And then, in our shamanic journey, you’ll step onboard Freya’s ship, Sessrumnir, and she’ll journey with you into the World of Spirit, helping you to connect with your inner feminine light, magic and wisdom. The journey starts at 15.58. If you want to journey more with Freya, then why not join me on my new online course Shamanic Journey with the Divine Mothers of Darkness & Light. You can read more about it here. To learn more about the Norse Myths, I recommend Norse scholar Maria Kvilhaug's book The Seed of Yggdrasil. It is amazing!
