Useful, friendly, fresh approach
This is a really great podcast made by two Japanese young females. The fact that the podcast runs in their years of transition from college to professional life, along with the experience they get abroad in Europe as foreign students, sets them in the right mindset to really understand and always keep in mind what they need to tell foreigners about Japanese lifestyle and culture. There’s some trial and error in the way vocabulary lists for the chapters are delivered, but fortunately they find a good formula quickly (initially they read out a full list at the end of each chapter, but later decide to just post the vocabulary lists for each chapter on their online blog, which is more practical I think). What doesn’t change is the fact that as they talk away they are careful enough to translate to English some words every minute or so, which proves to be a great crutch to keep the flame of your understanding alive (however feeble it may be) and thus your interest and focus. I truly think this podcast is a great contribution to learners of Japanese as a second language that already know English. Other people wouldn’t find it as value though I’m afraid. In the past I tried to join this podcast’s Patreon but I was informed by the girls that they had just closed it. I truly regret that I couldn’t get around to buy them even a miser cup of matcha latte for their efforts. But I’m glad this all went to the public domain —and don’t get me wrong, always has: the Patreon sponsorship was completely voluntary— and is still available for whoever wants to use it. A huge thank you to the authors for their hard work. 感謝します。

More reviews of Let’s learn Japanese from small talk!
I enjoy this podcast. There isn't much out there like this. I appreciate that they speak at a natural speed, but still keep the conversation simple. Lots of materials for Japanese learners speak unnecessarily slow, which is boring - this podcast doesn't do that. This is good immersion...Read full review »

Hopefully soon I will grok more but for me, this is more familiar than nhk news or bilingual news. Not yet really understandable but I do get bits of it here and there. I just wish the Vocab list was available in text format.
