Each year has a sport story or stories that define that year. In 2022, the discussion and debate over inclusion took a larger stage, mainly because of a college swimmer in the Ivy League. It's been 9 months since Lia Thomas, then at the University of Pennsylvania, won an NCAA championship, but her name still causes reactions whenever the issue of trans people in sport is discussed. In this special year-end edition of the Trans Sporter Room, we look back at the timeline, the tales and how the twists and turns have affected the larger issues in sport and our society. Lia Thomas taking a starting block as a collegian changed more in sports that we could imagine. How much change? We have yet to see, but the reactions to this point have been seismic.
