ObamaDem turned Libertarian!
This podcast has helped me to re-evaluate my thought process so that I may become a better informed voter. Keep up the amazing work. I truly appreciate it. Now for an aside. I hope this proves insightful to the creators of this podcast and fellow readers. Let me preface by saying. I am a millennial. I am a black male. I voted for Obama twice. I voted for Trump in the primary and Johnson in the general. I am a voter political pundits, pollsters, and reporters could not get a read on, mainly due to broad generalizations perpetuated by the media in general. I often find that modern libertarianism aligns itself politically with those of the right, in the vein of conservatism. Because of that, in the past, my friends and I had wrote off this philosophy as radical right wing politics. Although libertarianism is socially liberal those ideas seem to be at best, 2nd string to what seems to be imperative, fiscal concerns. There does not seem to be a difference of opinion among libertarians and conservatives significant enough to drive a wedge between the right and libertarians such as the schism that seems to exist between libertarians and the left. For the modern left, there is no corollary for civil liberties. None! They do not recognize libertarians as those who champion liberty because of how libertarianism today has politically aligned itself. I believe if there were a stronger dialogue with the left and those that advocate for liberty, that more people, such as myself would be more inclined to ideas conducive with classical liberalism and less to the progressive's idea of achieving results.
