Made during the height of the economic downturn in the mid-aughts, this is the story of Ryan Bingham, a blunt yet endearing commitment-phobe whose job entails flying all over the United States to fire people. In the role of Ryan, George Clooney gives us an intimate portrait of a man who feels most at home when he's not at home, and in the course of the film, is forced to confront and reconsider the philosophies that have shaped his chosen lifestyle. As coaches, we're experts at helping our clients get to the root of why they do what they do so that they can implement lasting, values-driven change. We talk about Ryan Bingham's apparent lack of a why, and we segue into a broader discussion about what it takes for us to stick our necks out and attempt something way outside our comfort zone.
