“Anyone who has made massive mistakes and sinned greatly will be convicted and encouraged by this podcast. Laura shows tremendous bravery, of course, but so does Carl. He still has a touch of “celebrity pastor” in his style of delivery, and it took me a while to get used to it without feeling cynical. But that’s my fault as a listener, not his fault as a speaker. I was a pastor’s kid and also worked in ministry for a long time, and I grew weary of the circus shows at many churches. So, like many, I made assumptions. I felt deeply convicted listening to him describe the rawness of their season together, and convicted by listening to Laura fight to articulate her pain. Most importantly, her choice to not condemn him is a remarkable glimpse into the heart of Jesus, and the way forward for helping men overcome these battles. Shame and condemnation will never work, and Carl and Laura seem to be living proof of what does work: mercy and grace—especially when it’s undeserved. It made me deeply contemplate my own sin and those I have hurt. Very refreshing to hear and see the fruit of God’s grace. I can’t recommend it highly enough.”
