“Unless you listened to Serial pre 2014 then you’re a newby to the podcasting game, that’s facts. If you are a true podcast connoisseur then you’ll be well aware of how irritating it is when a podcast novice gives you unsolicited recommendations for shows you’ve already listened to. Which is exactly how I felt when mates who know nothing about anything kept telling me to listen to List Cloggers. I was like yeah nah how good could a couple of washed up footballers who couldn’t even make it to the 100 game milestone be? What authority, what rights, what wisdom could they possibly have to offer? But after some self reflection upon my own footballing career I thought hang on, I might have more in common with these boys than I care to admit. With just one Senior selection, which was for a pre season practice match, and a cupboard full of coaches awards, the only B&F I won was in under 19s because the two best players kept getting picked in the Firsts, I finished my career with a fractured toe which happened when the ball was at the other end of the ground I thought Tim, you’ve got to swallow your pride and be the bigger man here and give this a listen. Well, boyo boy woweee my pride tasted the second half of a pint.
I’ve laughed, I’ve cried. I’ve been angry, I’ve been sad. I’ve dreamt of worlds I’d never knew possible. I’ve learnt things that I already knew. But in the end what I’ve enjoyed the most is feeling like I’m part of a community who are so tight that we could all be in each other’s intimate partner bubble. I feel so close to Dyl and Dan that I now even refer to them on shortened first name basis to my own Tempeh Princess.
This podcast is so good that I spent an entire week’s wage on a set of AirPod Pros just so I can walk around the supermarket in noise cancelled bliss whilst hanging out with the boys chewing the fat about footy, people who and priority pick. Thank both your parents for doing the dirty so we can all be in this together. All the best, and as we say up in the High Country - let’s root this pig.”
