Description
The frst recording of the day. It is around 8:00 AM, and I am at the small wooden dock at Nøstet. It is wind-still and freezing cold. The water slowly bobs up and down, as is visible through the movements of the dock, but it almost doesn't make any sound. I've placed my recorder near one of the poles that anchors the wooden dock. It is attached in such a way that the wooden platform can foat up and down with the tide and now it gently and silently glides up and down as the water levels rise and fall. The location is quite secluded Meanwhile Behind me, construction workers have started work on Sentralbadet, a former swimming pool that is currently under renovation to become a cultural space for dance and theater. Loud bangs are echoing in the background, materials removed or placed into position. Meanwhile A busy road is beginning to fll up with cars in a prelude to the morning rush hour. The road connects the city center with the Møhlenpris area and also the international harbor and other industrial activities. Cars and trucks wait for the trafc lights to turn green. Right behind me is an empty square connecting the harbor with the city center. Occasionally some pedestrians stroll by, softly talking with one another, footsteps mark their movements, one of them coughs, afected by the cold temperatures these past few days. Meanwhile Several cawing birds are flying around, while some others sit in a nearby garden, chirping in the distance. The birds are scavenging the surroundings, looking for breadcrumbs, seeds or other food sources.
