S7 EP12 Tackling Food Addiction
Listen now
Description
Food addictions, and the five rungs of pleasure; that's what we discuss with Bracha Goetz, a Harvard educated author of 41 children's books and a candid memoir for adults. She discusses her food addiction while attending medical school and how she overcame it by applying the five rungs of pleasure. Bracha looked like a success on the outside, but was suffering on the inside. She eventually went to a therapist, confessed her addictive behavior, and he said to her, "I think when you go to Israel for the summer, you may find what you're looking for." So, Bracha went to Israel, immersed herself in her Jewish heritage, and when she returned home, she got out her old diaries and journals, learned about the five rungs of pleasure, and began finding a way to fill up and nourish her soul.
