In a recent experience, I found myself caught in a moment of unexpected shame during a webinar with my mentor, Michelle Masters. As I tuned in with my ear pods, an unusual sound, resembling a roaring tiger, disrupted the serene atmosphere. What transpired next led me to question the roots of my shame and explore a journey of self-discovery. The incident sparked a series of reflections on why moments of vulnerability trigger such intense emotions in me. I discovered a pattern rooted in my childhood, where my authentic self was met with laughter and dismissal by my father. Over time, I internalized the belief that being myself led to ridicule, a belief that shaped my default response to situations where I express my true thoughts. In the episode, I share instances from my past where I allowed others to make me feel ashamed about my words or actions. Rather than blaming external factors, I learned to empower myself by explaining my intentions, challenging the narratives I had constructed, and ultimately embracing self-advocacy.
