Sacramento Beats the Lakers (Again), Domantas Sabonis Outplays Anthony Davis (Again)
Listen now
Description
The Lakers were game for a half, in both effort and (general) execution. In the second half, at least one of those things stopped. The Lakers were held to 17 third quarter points, which allowed Sacramento to turn a reasonable four point lead at the half into a far more comfortable 15 point cushion heading into the final period. The offense for LA really cratered as the game went along, scoring only 17 points in the third. Individual performances weren't much to write home about. Austin Reaves was great early, scoring 11 of the team's first 13 points. he finished with 28. Rui Hachimura had 20, on 9-11 from the floor (though a lot of that was front loaded into the opening half). But aside from that? Well, D'Angelo Russell didn't have a field goal until the fourth quarter (finishing with six points overall). The bench was again problematic, scoring only 13 points as a group, including a grand total of zero points from Spencer Dinwiddie, across 20 minutes of play. Anthony Davis was inefficient, and again outplayed by Sacramento's Domantas Sabonis. LeBron James may have finished with 18/13/9, but was even less efficient than Davis, missing 10 of his shots. With the loss, the Lakers fail to gain a game on Dallas, or put a little more room between themselves and the 10th place Warriors, who lost on Wednesday night, without Steph Curry in the lineup. The Lakers aren't going to win often when their stars are this inefficient. Not against decent teams, at least. Plenty to unpack! As the Lakers were losing (again) to the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, it felt like they were far enough away from the defending champs that the deficit couldn't be placed entirely at the feet of Darvin Ham. Somewhere near his feet? Sure. A good chunk of that blame? Ok....
