Description
The Reds hit three home runs- including a grand slam by rookie Rece Hinds- and sprayed the ball all over the park in this 7-4 laugher between two teams that are going in opposite directions heading into the MLB All-Star Break. Rookie Rece Hinds hit his first career grand slam. Hinds is just finishing up a red-hot debut week in the major leagues, going 9-18 with three home runs, three doubles, a triple, and eight RBI's. That's seven of his nine hits going for extra bases. Jonathan India and Jeimer Candelario also homered for the Reds, (46-49) who have won four of their last five games. Candelario had two hits, two runs scored, and was on base four times, and Elly De La Cruz added three hits. Starting pitcher Yonny Chirinos was awful for Miami, going 5 2/3 innings, getting roughed up for eight hits and seven runs, walking four and striking out just one. Jesus Sanchez hit a three-run home run for Miami. (32-62) Nick Gordon had a double, a single and a run scored, Ali Sanchez had two hits and an RBI, and Xavier Edwards added two hits plus some great defense at shortstop. Reds starter Carson Spiers struck out the first six hitters he faced, cruising until the Reds already had a 7-0 lead. The Marlins have lost nine of their last eleven, with the two wins coming against the lowly Chicago White Sox. The Marlins and Reds play the second of this three-game series tomorrow at Great American Ballpark.
