“...and I listen to a lot of them. I’ve listened to him since the early days of the his daily podcast and along the way he’s made me laugh, cry, and think about the game in new ways. Whether he’s interviewing a guest or just musing on yesterday’s games, Sully is prodigiously knowledgeable. In fact, I first came across him in podcast land when he was on a now-defunct baseball quiz show called High Heat Stats and he beat the hosts! But here’s the thing: He’s not a stat guy. He’s a passionate story guy, a creative what-if guy, a guy with a wide historical lens to connect today’s game with the past. If I had one wish, I’d sit him down for day and teach him about WAR, xFIP, wRC+, and other advanced metrics only because I think he’d love examining the intent behind the stats; that is, the nuance of the game they are trying to illuminate. Either way, I love his passion and his sense of humor and I’ll keep listening as long as he’s podcasting.”
