A much needed perspective in the anime community
— Even if you disagree with their tastes on anime, this podcast offers a valuable perspective on seasonal and classic anime alike. — The homogeneous viewpoint of the anime community presents a warped perspective of the medium as whole, especially as it relates to important topics facing society today. Gender politics, race relations, and class disparity are things that often aren’t addressed by the community at large, and it’s a major factor in what can lead to a negative perception of us among the general public. It’s not easy to begin addressing these topics broadly, without isolating those who would rather keep their entertainment separate from their political beliefs. The issue comes in that by ignoring these concepts we end up under-representing the marginalized groups in our community, which make up a significant portion of anime fans today. It’s extremely refreshing to be offered these perspectives from a podcast that presents these concepts with open arms, rather than gatekeeping those that aren’t as woke. They side-step the pitfalls of reviewing anime by not dismissing a given show and admitting personal bias. Each episode is considerately outlined for spoilers, and remains organized despite a free-wheeling debate. The hosts focus on a succinct discussion rather than an aimless non-anime related ramble most of the time, and they offer their opinions on off-topic things at the end of each episode. This is a podcast for everyone, that manages to still retain its niche viewpoint. Whether you are a long time weeb or casual anime fan, you will find merit in their reviews through the hosts’ quippy dialogue, sardonic worldview, and extensive analysis of each anime they discuss.

Even for the shows they don’t recommend, the...Read full review »
