“Don’t let the title fool you... Mad About Movies is not an overwhelmingly negative show. In fact, it’s quite the contrary. The three hosts are generally very positive about the films they review, and are still very respectful and enjoyable to listen to even when reviewing bad movies with very little good to say about it. They all know (or at least make it seem like they know) a lot about movies and the film industry, yet they do not come across as pretentious or stuffy at all, offering they’re thoughts which are usually representative of how the typical viewer/listener will feel. While they mainly talk about movies, they also discuss many other aspects of pop culture like tv, sports, and books throughout the episodes and in their “Weekly Recommends” segments.
The three hosts, Kent, Richard, and Brian have great chemistry and are incredibly fun and funny to listen to (and are very sarcastic, especially Richard FYI). They all have nice personalities and seem like very friendly people. As previously said, they are all very sarcastic, particularly Richard (RB as he’s called sometimes), but their jokes are very seldom inappropriate or crass (Richard’s come the closest to offensive, but he always lets the audience know that he’s joking and apologizes if he does cross a line). Sometimes, though, they will speak over each other, delivering jokes at the same time, which may cause you to find yourself putting the podcast back 15 secs to try to hear what each person said.
My only complaint/suggestion would be for Kent (the main host) to not worry so much about staying “on track” when Richard and Brian digress into goofy jokes or side stories, and just let them do their thing. Their digressions are always incredibly fun, and are well worth whatever extra time the podcast episode requires.
In summary, MAM is a very fun show, with super funny, casual conversations. Their reviews on films are insightful and interesting without crossing the line into being pedantic or pretentious. I highly recommend if you are looking for a friendly group of guys reviewing the latest in movies and pop culture!”
