It could be so much more.
The Massive Report Podcast could be so much more than it is. Matt, the main host, is an obviously knowledgeable fan. He's prone to rants, but that would be fine if he had a balancing co-host. Unfortunately, some of the rotating cast of characters that co-host are even more prone to rants, to unreasonable statements, or being flat out uninformed. Some of then are great. However, there are usually 3-4 of them and at least 2 will fall into the previous categories. Matt seems to be friends with these people and unwilling to really challenge all but the most uninformed or over the top opinion. Even when the analysis is good, it can be hard to hear. The podcast is taped at a bar. For example, episode 52 had some excellent analysis, in parts, of the team. It was drowned out at time by the voices of the people playing pool around them and the sound of pool balls colliding. I don't want to have to strain to hear you over the background noise. The podcast at times forgets its a podcast. Saying, "Show of hands!" and then never reporting what the results of the show of hands was doesn't help the listener. Hosts will flat out admit they don't prepare. They're just as likely to go on a rant about the Blue Jackets (seriously, a frequent tangent, if I wanted to listen to a CBJ podcast, I would) as they are to talk about the Crew itself. When they do talk about the Crew, it's just as much to rant about the incompetence of the coaching staff and front office as it is about the team itself. I find myself saying: I'm giving you an hour of time, at least, in my week. And you can't be bothered to stay on topic or be prepared? More than once I've stopped listening half-way through because the topic has strayed so far from the Crew. I've listened off and on for over a year. Inevitably, I unsubscribe from the podcast, fed up with the blind fandom and ridiculous statements. Then something interesting will happen with the team, and I'll want a fan's take, not just the take of of the team issued podcasts (a new-ish development at that). I'll download the latest episode and be reminded why I'm so disappointed. The MRPod is what it is. It's a group of buddies, drinking cheap beer in a bar, who happen to decide to record their drunken back and forth and publish it. I just wish it was more than that.

As a Crew fan I would really enjoy a professionally run podcast that delivers options and news about the team. Every time I feel like The Massive Report is almost there, I get disappointed. This pod comes of as one host who tries to keep the pod on track and productive, then three other guys who...Read full review »
