Helpful advice but not always evidence based
I just finished listening to the podcast about the challenges of a whole food plant based diet while pregnant. I was quite disappointed in the extra resources they provided one of which is a response to The China Study by Denise Minger. Dr Colin Campbell’s book is not based on one single study. Dr Campbell is a researcher who provides huge long term epidemiological studies and randomized control trials which shoes that avoiding animal proteins can change your chromosomes and reverse heart disease. And what is good for one organ (heart) is good for another (ovaries). Denise does not have a PhD nor is she an MD. Her rebuttals are not subject to peer review and the rigors of publishing in academic journals as well as clinical experience simple don’t equate to someone on a solo research path. If you look at studies on Fertility IQ, red meat consumption is strongly correlated with reduced fertility. Soy consumption is strongly linked to a healthier endometrium. I recommend finding resources by Whitney E RD who has studied under Walter Longo a well known researcher in longevity. I appreciate that they took time to dive into supplementation on a WFPB diet but realize that the animals are being supplemented with B12 which is why those who eat meat are less deficient. As someone who eats a WFPB diet, I have experienced a major reduction in joint pain that I used to experience frequently, my hypothyroidism disappeared and my weight is now in a healthy range and I no longer have high cholesterol. I had miscarriages as a paleo dieter and I have miscarriages now as a WFPB vegan. Sometimes diet does not cure everything but I would never go back to a paleo diet. I feel way too good where I am now.
