“Howie, you keep using the phrase “won a Purple Heart”. Actually, one is awarded a Purple Heart. One doesn’t “win” one. The Purple Heart is I think different from many medals. It’s given more for what happened to you (wounded) rather than what you did. Please do not interpret this as denigrating awardees. They should be appreciated for putting themselves in harms way for the rest of us and for the country (as should their comrades who were not wounded). And we as a country need to be committed to supporting them if they suffer long term consequences of their injury. However, I felt compelled to write this because you keep repeating this.”
