“I was particularly moved by Thomas the writer/ boxer’s story. I was also a transman boxer until I experienced a freak accident, a spinal cord injury, during a sparring session. I had a very similar experience boxing. It was the most wonderful, peaceful time of my athletic career. Boxing for me was about intimacy and a way to celebrate my masculinity and need to engage in roughhousing intensively, without the anger I had carried for years until I went through transition. I had played ice hockey for years, along with all of my brothers, but boxing was mine. Boxing was about growth and friendship rather than comparison or competing. Thank you Thomas for taking me back into the ring.
This is a great podcast. I now live with chronic pain and limited mobility. Mindfulness helps me to embrace my reality and experience my unexpected situation and my life in a more joyous way that for most of my life I never knew could be possible.”
