Description
In this episode Dr. Robert Melillo and Dr. Peter Scire discuss different types of anxiety especially “right brain anxiety”. In this they discuss differences in the emotional regulation of the right and left hemispheres of the brain and how imbalances between them can produce various symptoms. In this episode, they specifically discuss right hemisphere anxiety which is caused by overactivity of the right hemisphere and underactivity of the left hemisphere. The right hemisphere emotions are fear (sense of danger), Sadness, Embarrassment, shame, guilt, disgust and rejection sensitivity. Overactivity of these emotions can lead to severe social anxiety, low self-esteem, feelings of being judged by others and one self. There is also decreased emotions of happiness, joy and pride which are left brain emotions, this can also cause depression along with anxiety and in extreme cases this is the foundation of bipolar disorder. They also discuss ways to help restore proper brain function and reduce or eliminate these symptoms.
