“I am a 49year old black woman, currently 2 weeks into recovering from hysterectomy surgery due to fibroids. I was very interested in listening to the episode when Karen spoke to a lovely lady about her surgical menopause journey.
As well as my mum and older sister and cousin, I have a couple of friends who have also been through this and I’ve been able with talk with them about surgical menopause. All different experiences, may I add!
However, because of how common fibroids are amongst black women, there needs to be more discussion around fibroids and at what point a hysterectomy becomes your only realistic option for treatment- which then comes with its own issues of surgical menopause.
I am SO glad I’ve found this pod cast, it’s so informative and uplifting, I’ll be tuning in to the next season. In the meantime, I’ll be catching up with this season!
