While some Anglo-Catholics may believe in purgatory, Article 22 of the Articles of Religion (also know as the Thirty-Nine Articles) for the Church of England state that the “Romish Doctrine concerning Purgatory . . . [is] repugnant to the Word of God.” The Anglican Formularies (the 1662 Book of Common Prayer, the Book of Homilies, the Articles of Religion, and the Ordinal) are fully Protestant.”
