“I love this show so much. It is truly changing how I feel in my own life and for that I’m very, very grateful. However!! There are a couple things that I think alienate listeners and narrow the reach that it has and that’s frustrating to me because I share it with as many people as I can and I don’t like having to give a disclaimer (the content is so strong, I just wish it didn’t need one).
Number one- the name change from Mind Body Alignment to “The Momset Podcast”. It’s not only silly (and it is), but it also just cuts SO many people out of the listening audience. It’s embarrassing to say out loud and it’s just not true. Is she focusing on perspective in motherhood? Yes! But she doesn’t NEED to. Motherhood could just be the well from which she pulls her own examples and stories. But the content is for everyone.
Okay, next. And this is the big one for me. It has lately introduced some heavy religious language and it’s so cringey. I believe in God! And I love talking about the way I believe in God. But I don’t wanna hear “and Jesus was a servant to all people” or whatever. It’s hard to recommend it to my friends (especially the ones I know DON’T have their own relationship with God) now because I have to say “just try and stay focused on what she’s actually saying and don’t be turned off by the Christian language”. I appreciate what Tessa is doing in this regard, but I just wish she would see that it isn’t serving her greater purpose with the podcast (maybe with her LIFE, but not the podcast). It’s like a business putting up political signs during elections. C’mon. You are inevitably going to chase some people away and for what?! Is it worth it?
Lots to say for that one star. The 4 stars I did give it hopefully shine brighter than the absent one. Because the show is so insightful and it rings through my head all day, especially in the tougher moments. And for that I’m very grateful.”
