Dave of Salt Minded has decided to come back from touring the world and finding himself. Along with Capt Jack and myself, we are now a three man clownfest. In this episode Jack explains to us about 360 sonar, Dave vents about ribbonfish, and I try to keep it on track. Misguided Fishing's guest this episode is Travis Kemp, aka NC Travis, aka TW's Bait and Tackle's Business Development Manager.  We start off reveling in Jack's ignorance regarding "the bass" and go from there to learn about beach fishing for big Red Drum, rod making, upcoming all inclusive fishing tournaments and the sub tourneys that are built inside them.  Travis guides, mates, and works full time at TW's.  He is a knowledgeable man with boundless energy who wants to grow and market the...

In this episode of the misguided fishing podcast I try to let Capt Jack have a little more responsibility.  Since it is just Jack and I, Capt Donnie D of DOA Fishing Charters, I thought he could handle it.  We tell some stories, talk a little about fishing, have a technical issue as usual, and I don't beat down his fishing too much. He has a ways to go but he is coming along nicely.  Kind of like house training your puppy. - - Stuff we use: camcorder: https://amzn.to/2Om0J1u dslr: ...

We talk more fishing, an uncomfortably embarrassing story, and a pretty freakin' cool giveaway. Gary is the CEO of the Fisherman's Post.  The guy has done a lot in 20 years of his multimedia campaign. Print journalism, digital copies, tournament host, fishing schools, podcaster, etc. We, at Misguided Fishing feel fortunate to bring Gary down to our sophomoric level. The giveaway this week is for a year's subscription to The Fisherman's Post weekly statewide fishing reports presented by some...

Gary Hurley of the Fisherman's Post is a busy dude.  He started, in 2003, a free weekly paper for fishermen by fishermen.  Since then he has added fishing schools, paid fishing reports, fishing tournaments, and a podcast.  All while continuing to teach at his local college and still fish a bunch.  Always interesting and busy, Gary is an everyman for this century. Capt Jack joins as cohost on this latest episode of Misguided Fishing.  Capt Dave is out of the country on a top secret diplomatic mission to save the world.  Jack and Donnie discuss simpler matters such as why inshore fishing is far superior to offshore fishing, why last show's give away still hasn't been shipped, and Donnie tries to pry some offshore gossip out of Jack. Our guest for Ep 18 is Keith Tongier, aka The Drum Bum,  of TW's Tackle in Kitty Hawk, NC. The Drum Bum is one of the most knowledgeable guys we know when it comes to fishing.  He always has his finger on the pulse of what is biting and where.  What we did not know is that Keith is also one of the funniest guys we know.  You will have to forgive the editing in this one.  We were slapping the table while laughing and the mics were peaking constantly.  We finally gave up trying to keep him on...

We try.  We really do try.  We thought it would be a breeze putting up a podcast.  It isn't. Not even close to being easy.  Two guys with families, other jobs, and both who fish over 200 trips a year.  Well, the good thing is we really enjoy doing them when we get a chance.  In this episode we talk about Dave's tournament win and his big sailfish he caught while flounder fishing.  All in all we just ramble for over 30 minutes and don't teach you a thing.  Enjoy! Things we use to make this...

Dave and I usually try to keep our episode's length between 20 and 30 minutes.  Capt Bryan Dehart was having none of that.  This is part 2 of Dehart telling stories.  I was able to get the whole podcast edited down to 1hr and 17 min split between episodes.  When Bryan talks you definitely get your money's worth. - - Stuff we use to make these things: camcorder: https://amzn.to/2Om0J1u dslr:  https://amzn.to/3sKt1l2 wide lens:  https://amzn.to/2NST5fc close lens: ...

There are a handful of guys Dave and I agreed we had to get on this podcast to build a base because they have been doing the fishing gig so long they bring immediate credibility whenever they speak.  Capt Bryan is one of those guests that was placed in the "gotta have" category.  Bryan has probably forgotten more than Dave and I know about inshore fishing.  Bryan has forgotten so much he didn't even remember when i told him about the time he made my day for me.  If you like to hear stories...

Capt Bud Bishop is what is known as a "Guide's Guide."  Some guys just have a natural aptitude for finding and catching.  Bud is one of these.  In this episode Bud lays out for us his rotation of locations that he guides at throughout the year; making him one of the few full time watermen.  Bud also drops the bomb on me as to what he did before he went full time.  I would never have guessed. The giveaway this week is brought to you by our guest.  Yep, i didn't have to beg anybody for free...

Ep 14 focuses on the almost non existent cobia fishing season we had on the OBX of North Carolina.  For months we get excited and prepared for this and then it more or less doesn't happen.  But, as a guide we can't sit back and make excuses and not go.  We still have to catch and put our clients on fish.  Somedays it is easier said than done.
