“I’ve only really delved into Gundam and Mecha in the last 4 or so months, and don’t remember where I heard about MSB, but I decided to follow along as I watched through the series.
I never expected that the Podcast would drastically increase my enjoyment of the series to this extent! It’s such a delight being able to hear the discussions and history behind the franchise and get to learn each intricate aspect of its development and where it’s inspirations come from between series and episode.
Thom and Nina are wonderful hosts and both offer such a well researched view into the series and do a fantastic job dissecting each episode and trying to understand what the creators wanted to achieve with the various series’, characters, themes and historical callbacks. Being able to see the opinions and viewpoints of a veteran fan and a complete newbie to Gundam (I definitely relate to Nina in that regard) adds to the experience a lot. I’ve started to get really excited when I watch a new episode of Gundam and start to think, “I wonder what Thom and Nina think of this scene”, as It’s not easy to find other people digging into a franchise this enormous! I find myself eager to hear their thoughts after finishing an episode.
I also absolutely love the research segments of each episode, as Thom and Nina both do a staggering amount of work to unpack even the most obscure details and link them to real world events and history that could’ve inspired episodes and scenes. The amount of history, science and literature i’ve learnt from a podcast for a melodramatic show about space robots is beyond anything I expected.
Regardless of if you’re a long time fan or curious about the series, there’s so much to love from this Podcast and I can’t recommend it enough!”
