When thinking of the Romani, commonly referred to as “gypsies” images of music, magic, and folklore are invoked. We may think of them as a carefree nomadic society that comes and goes as they please, but the reality is much different. The moving around was forced upon them, not chosen. The Roma are an incredibly oppressed culture to the extent of attempted genocide. Which seemingly has been left out of our histories.
