“Podcast pros: the hosts do a fantastic job of selecting topics and guests that add a lot of value to what many mothers may be looking for more information and conversation on (i.e. sleep training, starting solids, etc). Rachael and Kara Ann clearly have their fingers on the pulse and after seeing the wide ranging list of episode topics, I was excited to dive in.
Cons: I came to this podcast as I currently follow Rachael on Instagram and truly appreciate her posts and advocacy for trusting your gut as a mother when it comes to responding to your child. However, it is a little disappointing that her cohost is someone who, after taking an online unaccredited nutrition course, is positioning themselves as a nutrition expert. This does a huge disservice to real nutrition experts aka registered dietitians such as Ayla Barmmer (who was a guest on the pod), and after listening to the conversation between Ayla and Kara Ann, it is obvious the huge discrepancy in knowledge and ability between the two. It’s also frustrating to look at Kara Ann’s social media and see so many blatant ripoffs from other dietitians (like Lily Nichols) without her giving credit. Nutrition is a complex, ever evolving field that requires years of school, coursework, and practical experience and if Kara Ann wants to be a nutrition expert, that’s awesome - but that means probably pursing her RD. This isn’t to gate-keep who can be interested in nutrition, rather it’s to protect the integrity of the field and to also protect future clients or patients from well intentioned but under informed advice. I’m a huge believer that it’s important to aspire to more and be curious for knowledge, but it’s equally important to stay in your own lane and respect the qualified experts in the field (or level up yourself).”
