Terrible Ads
I think you are both doing a great job so far on staying professional, not victim blaming and being respectful to the victims and their families. There was one ad however, that was ATROCIOUS and it almost made me stop the podcast altogether and move on to something else. “Wave goodbye to my old and dirty ways”??? C’mon seriously? There is nothing dirty about using conventional cleaners in plastic bottles. You can always buy refills and fill glass reusable bottles if you’d prefer and if it will make you feel like a better environmentalist. This is “cleanwashing” at it’s best, and the marketing language is elitist, ableist and privileged. “Cleaner and greener”? The word “clean” is not evidence based, it is not a regulated term, and there is no standard definition across the board, as it means different things to different people so there is no quantitative way to measure it. I was beginning to think that you guys were different, as you were not using ads affiliated with the trillion dollar wellness industry until I heard this…and as a survivor of Orthorexia (a debilitating eating/thinking disorder preoccupied with eating and living in a “healthy” way), I found this to be insensitive and gross. My food, my cleaning products, my skincare, my clothes and MY BODY are NOT dirty, unless they physically get dirty and need a wash! Please do better.
