I actually met Jeff McDonald while he was in prison on terminal island, San Pedro California!
After reading the book the first time as a teenager I was appalled at the horrific nature of his crimes. Fast forward 9 yrs and having graduated from college and worked as a pharmaceutical rep for Pfizer, I re-read the book but came away with a total different takeaway. My education as a medical rep. Gave me a perspective that found the info put forth about many drugs named were just false. That and other info caused me write him a note telling him I felt he had been railroaded and I felt he was innocent,etc... We wrote back and forth several months. Talked on the phone, collect of course and we decided to meet at his prison on terminal island. Well, one meeting is all it took for me to get a very uneasy feeling about him and his arrogance that I mentally terminated our friendship right then and there.

Another great podcast series from Marc Smerling: this one about the murder of Dr McDonald’s family & the writer given complete access to the defense & defendant. Fascinating.

McGinniss conned a triple murderer. Big deal. MacDonald was convicted by a jury in 6 hours. He wasn’t convicted by McGinniss. There’s no mystery here. MacDonald is 100% guilty. The podcast isn’t bad. It does have some interesting info in it.
