Health and Wellness: Understanding Pain - Dr Steph Aldridge
Listen now
Description
Pain is something we’ve all felt at some point.  Tweeks, niggles, general stiffness. For the most part, if you’re anything like me, you accept a certain level of discomfort as the ticket for admission when it comes to constantly chasing strength and fitness improvements, via regular high intensity training with heavy weight (relatively, anyway!). This week on the podcast, Osteopath, weightlifter, and fellow podcaster Dr. Steph Aldridge sits down to take us through all things pain.  From acute to chronic, non specific recurring pain to stress management of external factors (‘Life-Load’), it’s pretty clear that how we interpret pain can have a lot to do with our psychology surrounding injury as much as the physical element itself. Dr. Steph walks us through some common complaints and remedies in regards too:  The different elements that play into understanding and interpreting painNon Specific Lower Back IssuesCommon shoulder, knee and ankle issues and how to resolve themImmediate acute injury treatmentThe difference between useful accessories for rehab/prehab and IG ‘fluff’Returning to training post injuryI thoroughly enjoyed this conversation and getting to know Steph and how she thinks a little better, but you can skip out preamble and get to the practical pain elements at the 30:00 minute mark.  Got two minutes to support the show? If you surveyed 100 Crossfitters and asked them what their least favourite movement is, the overwhelming majority would side with the humble burpee. The seemingly easy task of lying down in a prone position then getting back to your feet, finishing with a little jump off the ground, doesnt seem...
