“I’m brand new to the stock market, well at least in terms of putting my own hard earned money into a brokerage account and getting ready to diversify my portfolio.. I took the Stocks DeCal at UC Berkeley-what an amazing class! I only wish I had started investing then, except I was still a poor college student and only had debt, not capital at the time.. But here I am now, a few many years since college graduation and happily employed with the government. Here with the Feds, I am invested in TSP (Thrift Savings Plan), and I’m very active and aggressive with my distribution and contributions. After watching the funds I’m invested in daily, I’ve decided to get my feet wet in stocks! Biggest factors are: I need better return of my savings; currently 1% (market’s best) with Barclay Online Savings, and I work for Social Security-so I know I can’t count on it for my retirement!
Here’s what I liked best about the first podcast I heard, ‘Buy Your First Stock!’: this group didn’t just shoot out terms without defining them, and if they did, the other person caught on and made sure it was defined (“and what is a blue chip?”), it was very easy to understand and it’s also very entertaining! Also, since I took a college class on Stocks, and I’ve been planning and researching as I prepare to become an investor, a lot of what’s said here I already knew or just recently learned and it was good to hear them talking about it, it was like a pat on the back and gave me confidence in that I’m doing well in my planning and preparing.”
