“We have a little bookworm. Our daughter doesn’t really play with her toys but she likes us to read to her all throughout the day. We have books in different areas of the house like mentioned, she would just grab one and take it to either me or my husband to read to her. I love that she loves books, maybe reading to her while she was in my womb really has something to do with it. I also started taking her to Story time in the library twice a week since she was about 3 mos old. At story time, we do sing along in between to keep them engaged or the reader would have a puppet, maracas or we would do movements with them while singing like clapping hands, pat your head etc.
Our daughter loves flap books- she gets excited when she sees what underneath the flaps. Animal farm books are great too to mimic the animal sounds.
She’s 15 mos now, we slowly starting to count what we see in the books besides mentioning colors and shapes just to get her familiar without stressing it. I completely agree with making sounds with alphabets rather than just singing abc, she does pick up on it better. One of our favorite rhyming books is llama llama and those touch and feel books does keep them engaged. Thank you for this Podcast. I’ll incorporate those tips and continue making reading fun for our daughter. I’ll listen to your other podcast. This is very helpful 😊 My IG is anloise”
