“In the 90s and 2000s I spent most of my free time listening to Don & Mike out of DC, where I lived. They were sort of tongue-in-cheek “shock jocks” who were very real about the real stuff (and silly about everything else) - which is why I loved them. Their show ended in 2008ish, and I didn’t have a favorite show for a looooong time after that.
I wish I’d found this one sooner. It’s the same idea: four guys in a tiny room, occasionally clashing personalities, people who are real humans, not trying to be funny, but finding the funny anyway.
The show is a tribute to comedy, especially standup, and if you’re not careful you might learn things about Jimmy’s interests like 80s music, comedy, etc. I would definitely not otherwise know who sings “Spiders and Snakes” if not for NNF (it’s Jim Stafford).
It keeps me company when I’m alone, and it keeps my mind occupied when I need distraction. About 5 years into listening I decided to go back to Episode 1 and listen to them all. It has taken 2 years, but it was worth the effort to hear the progression of their lives, the heartbreaks and successes and all the silliness. There is no podcast in the world I’d give a higher recommendation to.”
