Keep the Analysis, Ditch the Commentary
Lindsay is at his best when he is provided detailed textual analysis of the writings and ideas of the foundational critical theorists, and when he is carefully drawing causal lines between those ideas and the tactics and rhetoric of today’s Social Justice advocates. Whenever he starts editorializing, though, he resorts to taking performative cheap shots (“see, wokies?!” “this is is so stupid, can you believe this?”) and reveals the limitations of his own ideology. Speaking of which, the fact that he feels the need to so frequently assert his left-liberal bona fides, and the fact that he insists on trying to redeem and salvage the old American Story, reveal that he hasn’t yet fully absorbed the full implications of his own analysis into these issues.
