“I find this podcast fascinating, as James Lindsay has made an in-depth scholarly study of contemporary systems of radical thought. Often reading directly from source material (which can be tiresome because these writers like to use a lot of flowery, empty language), he distills the core concepts and maps out how all these different branches relate to each other; who the foundational authors were; the evolution of terms and ideas; how they’re being applied in the real world, and perhaps most importantly, how they can be resisted.
I would say I was slowly, socially conditioned into “woke” politics in the Bay Area without knowing it, and without understanding any of the underlying theories. They have a nice veneer and, I think, a kernel of truth in them, but their ultimate modality is to criticize and deconstruct, criticize and deconstruct, criticize and deconstruct… with no apparent OFF switch. They have become increasingly divisive, obnoxious, authoritarian, and destructive. They are unscientific and full of contradictions. Practitioners are steeped in negative thinking, and I have watched it destroy my friends’ mental and emotional health. Understanding the origins and aims of these systems of thought is the first step to reclaiming your sanity. I’ve been recommending Lindsay’s work to friends, family, and anyone who will listen.”
